I just got engaged, now what?
Congratulations on your engagement! Now you might be saying to yourself, “I just got engaged, now what?” Here are 7 tips that can help get the wedding planning process started without being too overwhelming.
1. What’s your budget?
Deciding on a budget is the hardest step, but figuring out numbers early on will help everything go smoothly. There are a lot of resources online that can help you solidify a realistic budget, don’t be afraid to use them.
2. What’s your vision/goal?
Are you looking for a wedding that is more DIY or an all inclusive venue? What vendors are you not willing to settle on? What aspects of the wedding are you OK with not doing? Making these decisions right away and knowing your budget with help guide you in the right direction.
3. Have your ring sized and insured.
If the ring doesn’t quit fit, head back to the original jeweler and they should size it for free. Once you get it back, start calling your insurance agency to have it insured. This is the only way to replace it without having to buy a new one. Coverage is usually super-affordable and the peace of mind is invaluable.
4. Be flexible and realistic.
Pinterest and Instagram are great tools but can be very easy to get carried away with the theme of your wedding. Trust me, I have a tendency to fall into that trap! Try to keep an open mind when discussing your vision, and take suggestions from the professional vendors. On a budget? It is OK to consider a Friday or Sunday wedding date. Your vendors will happily provide feedback on alternate options, which may be better for you (and your wallet) than the original plans.
5. Invest in a Wedding Planner booklet/binder.
You will have a lot of contracts, business cards, idea boards, notes, invoices, etc. to keep track of. Having a wedding planner booklet/binder will help you keep everything in one place. Plus some of the best ones have a checklist to check off as you plan your wedding.
6. Hire a Wedding Planner.
Having a Wedding Planner on your side from day 1 will make planning that much smoother. They can help you with all the details that you might not have time for and remind you of things that you might not have thought of.
7. Just have fun!
I will say this a million times to clients! You’re inviting your friends and family to celebrate the love you share with your fiancé. If at any point it becomes overwhelming, take a breather and start back up tomorrow. And if that doesn’t help, hire a wedding planner that can help alleviate those headaches.
These are just the top 7 quick tips and tricks. If you still are feeling overwhelmed or stressed out by all the decisions you have to make, take time to find a wedding planner that can help ease some of the stress!
